90 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - May/June 2008

($54; includes 6% merlot and 3% petit verdot) Good deep ruby-red. Claret-like aromas of blackberry, currant bud, bitter chocolate, licorice and graphite, plus a whiff of garrigue Juicy and laid-back, with firm, nicely integrated acids contributing to an impression of youthful austerity. Strong dark berry and graphite character in the mouth. Gains breadth on the back end, with the tannins substantial but nicely integrated. This very lively wine should be held for a couple of years.

Opened a bottle in June 2012 and another one in July 2012. Absolutely delicious! Fantastic nose, lush, complex and smooth and with still noticeable sweet tannins. So I'm happy there's still one more bottle in the cellar!

From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.

Varietal Image
Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon built its reputation on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Here, in the district of Medoc, the varietal is the key component of blended wines that also may include some Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and even Malbec and Petit Verdot. Moving slightly south, Cabernet Sauvignon meets Merlot in roughly equal proportions in the red wines of Graves. In both of these Bordeaux regions, the top bottles...
