About Ravenswood Winery

Ravenswood Winery has humble origins, beginning in 1976. This was the year Joel Peterson harvested his first crop of Zinfandel. Not from his own vines, however, Joel consistently sourced grapes from vineyards in Sonoma County and Napa Valley. At first it wasn’t by choice, he simply couldn’t afford to buy land. Medium red. Fresh redcurrant and strawberry aromas are lightly kissed by smoky herbs. Silky and fine, with bright red fruit and herb flavors, smooth tannins and a persistent raspberry note on the finish. Pretty impressive for the money, and there are 6 million bottles of this. I've bought this at gas stations! Peterson notes that it was fermented completely with native yeasts.

My first taste of Zinfandel

I am new to the wine tasting journey. My wife and I each ordered a glass of this and we were delightfully impressed. We feel this wine helped us get passed the alcohol and really enjoy the flavors others write about. I had Carrabba's Chicken marsala and it went very well with my dinner.
