93 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - January/February 2008

($95) Green gold. Smoky, mineral-dominated aromas of yellow plum, melon, peach pit and graphite, with a zesty citrus overlay. Taut and deeply concentrated, offering fresh pit fruit and citrus flavors complemented by exotic anise and floral pastille. This remarkable bottling showed the longest finish of any Condrieu I tasted this year. This gets the same elevage (25% new oak) as the Chaillees de l'Enfer, according to Christine Vernay.

Still, the most desired bottlings of Viognier continue to come from Condrieu, a region just south of the city of Lyon. Centuries of cultivation here have taught producers how to...
