About Costanti
When Andrea Costanti took over the family business from his Uncle Emilio in 1983, he had big shoes to fill—the Costantis have been one of the premier wine families in Montalcino since the 1500s. Costanti proved more than up to the challenge, however, and today, produces complex, aromatic Brunellos, plus the Super Tuscan Vermiglio.
2005 Costanti Brunello di Montalcino
Producer: Costanti
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Sangiovese
Origin: Italy
Region: Tuscany
91 Points | International Wine Cellar , July 2010
Dark red. Spice and mineral nuances complicate floral red cherry and redcurrant on the nose. Enters the mouth bright and compact, then picks up considerable weight with air, showcasing ripe red cherry and underbrush flavors of noteworthy intensity and purity. Finishes with youthfully tough but high-quality tannins and impressive length. An outstanding, almost pinot-like wine and an excellent example of how sangiovese in Montalcino (in some terroirs, at least) doesn't need any additions of cabernet, montepulciano, nero d'avola or merlot. Well done.
