This 2004 opens with spiced gummy black raspberry, strawberry, cherry, leather, vanilla, tea, bread, eucalyptus, smoke, plum, cardamom pod and an interesting nutra-sweet character. In the mouth, the attack is somewhat dilute and hollow in body then slowly builds with dark chocolate, leather, black plum, herb, roasted coffee and an odd penicillin flavor all framed around chalky but austere tannins. The wine is somewhat compact in flavor on the finish, as if the door was slammed in your face. A nice Mourvedre which needs the element of food for maximum enjoyment. Serve with Seared Venison Chop with Squash Puree. (90+/100)
