($64) Inky ruby. Extremely ripe, port-like aromas of dark fruit liqueur, smoked meat, underbrush and dried flowers. Ripe dark fruit and cherry brandy flavors are given further depth by a rich, chocolatey quality, with slow-mounting tannins adding grip. Doesn't so much finish as slowly fades away. This will need to be served with the richest red meat dishes, or, better still, with blue cheeses. Pretty serious stuff. (Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA)
