There's also some vineyards across the valley, in the Montecucco appellation, in the province of Grosseto. The Brunello is among the suavest and most velvety out there, with vibrant fruit character, enticing perfume and very supple tannins. Unlike many other top wines of the zone, this stylish Brunello does not normally require lengthy cellaring to show its charms. The estate also makes a popular blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot called Ateo.
