2006 Clos Roche Blanche Touraine Rouge Cabernet Franc
About Clos Roche Blanche
Considering the nature of the soil in Touraine (weak clay and flint over a limestone sub-soil),which is excellent for Sauvignon Blanc, it's a shame there aren't more serious producers operating here. Fortunately Catherine Roussel and Didier Barrouillet are doing a fine job, farming their vines organically and emphaisizing non-interventionist techniques in the cellar. These are pure, vibrant, mineral-driven wines made by organic methods -- and excellent values. The estate's red wines -- including Cabernet Franc, Gamay, and Cot -- are also worth seeking out.
