91(+?) Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - May/June 2009

(15.2% alcohol; a Bordeaux blend based on 80% cabernet sauvignon) Good full medium ruby. Superripe but not stewy on the nose, offering a complex range of black fruits, bitter chocolate, cedar, graphite, tar, dill and black pepper. Suave and sweet, with impressive mid-palate volume and an intriguing graphite minerality to complicate the crushed black raspberry flavor. Here the 8% malbec component takes the place of merlot to add aromatics, notes Sullivan. Finishes with huge tannins that appear to be supported by the wine's strong material. This will need time.

About Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the most famous wine-growing area in the U.S. It begins at the base of Mount St. Helena in the north and tapers off some 30 miles to the south into the floodplain where the Napa River enters San Francisco Bay. From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.
