2006 Ravenswood Winery Zinfandel Old Hill Sonoma Valley

Joel Peterson's full-flavored Zinfandels -- "No Wimpy Wines" is the motto of this winery -- have displayed an admirable consistency for over two decades, even after the sale of the operation to Constellation in 2001. Peterson was an early proponent of vineyard-designated Zins, and many of his bottlings from the late 1980s and early 1990s are still in excellent condition. The Vintner's Blend, made in enormous quantities, is a reliably supple, fruity wine at a remarkably low price, while the Old Hill Ranch is one of California's most distinctive reds.
