About Spottswoode Vineyard
Part of the old guard in Napa Valley, Spottswoode was established in the first wave of vine planting, back in 1882. Christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts in 1910, Spottswoode is now managed by Mary Novak and her two children, Beth and Lindy. Over the past two decades, Spottswoode has been one of the most consistent Cabernet producers of California, with a track record for graceful bottle aging.
2006 Spottswoode Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Napa Valley
Producer: Spottswoode Vineyard
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Origin: California
Region: Napa
90 Points | International Wine Cellar , May/June 2009
($130) Deep ruby-red. Superripe aromas of black fruits, licorice, mocha and espresso; not currently showing the classic floral character of this wine, despite the presence of 12% cabernet franc. Big, broad, chewy and dry, with cassis and boysenberry fruit flavors currently in the background. Finishes quite tannic and a tad dry. This was bottled late, in December of '08, owing to its tannic structure and its tightness in barrel, according to winemaker Williams. (I once again scored the wonderfully fleshy yet suave 2005 estate cabernet 93 points. This wine may yet shut down in bottle but was smooth, sweet and captivating in March.)
