It took a few bold souls to get the the ball rolling for Rhône varietals in California. Steve Edmunds was one of them. He makes uncompromising Syrah and southern Rhône-inspired blends with no concessions to modern taste. Edmunds' wines begin life with little of the easy sweetness provided by new oak barrels but are aromatically pure and have a track record for mid-term aging. Prior to 2002, the Shell and Bone bottling, a blend of southern Rhône varieties, was called Los Robles Viejos.
