About Talley Vineyards

Before the Talley family made wine, they grew peppers, avocados, zucchini and more. In fact, in the Arroyo Grande Valley, the Talley’s have more of a name for vegetable growing than winemaking. ($36) Light, bright red. Sharply focused red berry and spice aromas are impressively pure and fresh. Taut, finely etched redcurrant and wild strawberry flavors are seamless and clean, with slow-mounting minerality contributing energy. Finishes with gentle sweetness and a jolt of dusty minerals. This will need a bit more time than the Edna Valley bottling.

The wine was a bit light for my taste, but had lots of nice (soft) fruit. My friends who shared the wine w/us felt the same way. A pleasant wine, but not remarkable. Lacked body and character.

Powerful consumer interest in California wine is driven by two major factors. The more obvious reason is that California's best wines, which come from grapes grown in...

Pinot Noir

Adored by critics, prized by collectors, Pinot Noir is one of most tantalizing yet temperamental varietals in the world. For many wine enthusiasts, this is part of the appeal of Pinot -- it doesn't reveal its charms easily. Pinot Noir's virtue also stems from the unique characteristics of the grape. The skins are especially delicate, which accounts for the lighter color and body of finished wine. But, despite the delicacy, the best wines have excellent backbone and...
