($20; cataratto and chardonnay) Yellow-gold color. The nose is much more dominated by chardonnay than in any previous vintage, displaying obvious pineapple, banana and ripe citrus scents with very little of the bright citrus and herbal notes of past versions. Supple and rich but also fatter and sweeter than ever before, even if it manages to remain bright and fresh; fruit-driven flavors similar to the aromas. The clean finish features a sweet menthol note. An appealing wine, but I find it less fragrant and charming than the two previous vintages; in fact, this comes dangerously close to seeming like just another chardonnay. Still an excellent value, though. I awarded the 2006 the "best buy white wine of the year" prize in a book I wrote in Italy, but I don't think this 2007 is at the same exciting quality level.
