Sweet oak and ripeness get a little more play than they should owing to this soft-centered wine's short-fall of clearly defined fruit, and its flavors end abruptly with an onrush of very dry tannins that promise to remain long after all else has faded away.
Deep red-ruby. Currant, spicecake, chocolate and smoke on the nose, plus a whiff of molasses. Sweet in the middle but with good energy and lift. Here the tannins are broad and nicely supported by the wine's fruit. Much better than the Canoe Ridge Estate merlot, which I found herbaceous and dried by oak.
