Proprietor Paul Avril, with the help of his son Vincent, produces a classic, brooding, structured style of Châteauneuf from his 80-plus acres of vines. This wine is less showy in its youth than most because of its sizable Mourvèdre component and its licorice and underbrush character, but built to age: think two decades here. The white Châteauneuf is also excellent.
