About Domaine A. et P. de Villaine
Look to Bouzeron, in the Côte Chalonnaise, for hints of the fabled Domaine de la Romanée-Conti on the cheap. Domaine A. et P. de Villaine is the home estate of Aubert de Villaine, co-owner of DRC. Villaine's Aligoté is widely considered the archetype of the variety, impressively deep and complex without losing the variety's delicacy or vivacity. But strong local traditions have succeeded in ensuring continued cultivation of Aligoté, rather than complete replacement of the vines with the more popular (and lucrative) Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some Pinot Noir grapes are grown; these wines offer suave texture and lush berry flavors.
