About Beckmen Vineyards
When winemaker Steve Beckmen returned from Italy in 1997, he was convinced that his family's recently purchased hillside in Santa Barbara County would be perfect for growing Rhône varietals. His father Tom was skeptical, but since then, Purisima Mountain Vineyard has established itself as one of the finest sources of Syrah and Grenache in the Central Coast.

($50) Inky purple. Impressively perfumed aromas of deep blackberry, blueberry, smoked meat and flowers; this is classic syrah. Dark berry preserve flavors are brightened by dusty minerals and given tangy lift by a late note of blood orange. Impressively fresh for such a rich wine, with excellent finishing clarity and persistence. While this has the depth and balance to age, I'd drink it soon for its vibrant fruit.
