93(+)? Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - September/October 2009

($166; 100% tempranillo) Inky purple. Musky scents of dried cherry, candied plum, underbrush, tobacco and violet. Creamy blueberry and cassis flavors are supported by smoky minerals and framed by chewy tannins. The floral quality reappears on the back end, along with a hint of black tea. Dense and serious Rioja with a long, chewy, spicy finish leaving smoke and cracked pepper notes behind. This big boy deserves patience.
