About Beckmen Vineyards

When winemaker Steve Beckmen returned from Italy in 1997, he was convinced that his family's recently purchased hillside in Santa Barbara County would be perfect for growing Rhône varietals. His father Tom was skeptical, but since then, Purisima Mountain Vineyard has established itself as one of the finest sources of Syrah and Grenache in the Central Coast.

($50) Opaque ruby. Powerfully scented, complex bouquet of cassis, boysenberry, pungent herbs, camphor and smoky oak spices. Broad and fleshy, offering deep, sweet dark berry preserve flavors and a good lashing of oak spice. Clings impressively on the finish, which repeats the dark fruit notes. I like the harmony of fruit and tannin here.
