About Betz Family Vineyards
At Betz Family Cellars, Bob Betz makes some of Washington's richest and most complete red wines from Bordeaux varieties. His success extends to Syrahs as well; these are at once silky, highly concentrated and wild -- and, along with those of Cayuse, more Rhône-like in style than any others in Washington State.
2006 Betz Family Vineyards Clos de Betz Red Wine Columbia Valley
Producer: Betz Family Vineyards
Style: Red Wine
Grape Type: Bordeaux Blend
Origin: Washington
Region: Columbia Valley
93(+?) Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2008
($40; a blend of 52% merlot; 30% cabernet sauvignon, 13% cabernet franc and 5% malbec) Bright red-ruby color. Subdued but pure and highly complex nose features candied cherry and red berries, brown spices, flowers and sexy dried herbs. Wonderfully silky and subtle on entry, then juicy and sharply delineated but quite closed in the middle, with terrific acidity and a strong spice character contributing to the impression of purity and lift. The note of cherry candy follows through on the palate. I'd give this youthfully tight wine five years in the cellar. Incidentally, winemaker Bob Betz told me that as of 2008 there will be no cabernet franc or malbec in this cuvee
