2006 Domaine du Pas de l'Escalette Le Grand Pas

Julien Zernott's Pas de l'Escalette has enjoyed a meteoric rise in notoriety since we first discovered these gorgeous wines at ViniSud in 2006. Julien Zernott and Delphine Rousseau farm a 25-acre vineyard that's nestled on 1150-foot high terraces supported by clapas-- the local word for dry stone walls. They cultivate the vineyard, located in the lower foothills of the Larzac plateau, as naturally as possible, eschewing chemical treatments. Half of the vineyards face east, benefiting from the rising sun; the rest face west, enjoying the warmth of the setting sun. The top cuvee here is Le Grand Pas, made from Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan.
