($120) Deep ruby. Powerful, pungent aromas evoke kirsch, blackberry, smoky herbs and dried flowers. Energetic, penetrating cherry and dark berry flavors are enlivened by juicy acidity and given spine by a tangy mineral quality. A floral quality sneaks in with air, along with notes of allspice and star anise. The finish is sappy, focused and very long, with herbs and flowers lingering.

nice but expensive

2007 vintage. This really is a nice wine taking full advantage of the vintage...I'm especially partial to the licorice and cream carried by nice firm tannins. But, and a big but, it's probably not going to improve a huge amount in the next few years, and this is a helluva lot of money to pay (some of the 07 Crozes-Hermitage, for example, are similar but about 1/3 of the price).
