($65) Inky ruby. An expansive, floral bouquet displays scents of blackcurrant, boysenberry, pipe tobacco and potpourri, with subtle mineral and spice notes adding complexity. Rich, fleshy dark berry compote flavors stain the palate and take a turn to brighter red fruits with air. A sexy framboise quality lingers endlessly behind the broad, velvety finish. Ignore the 14.5% alcohol stated on the label as this is a big, lush example of 2007 that packs a major punch. North Berkeley Imports, Berkeley CA
