Bright violet. Fresh red and dark berry aromas are impressively pure and penetrating, with notes of smoky herbs and flowers adding complexity. Lively raspberry and blackberry flavors are given spine by zesty minerality and pick up an exotic lavender pastille note with air. The finish is focused and impressively long. This is already delicious but has the balance to age. Sussex Wine Merchants, Mooresville NJ ; Margaux & Company, Charlottesville VA

Heavenly and juicy!

Knowing the expectations for the 2007 Rhone reds, I had high hopes for the Xavier Gigondas. The perfumed nose led to a ripe and juicy "pop" in my mouth on first sip. You can tell this wine will do very well over a long period of time in your cellar...the only draw back will be keeping your hands off of it in the interim.

Dark plum color, very dark fruit aroma with a nice fruity flavor to match. Hint of still being a little young. Nice tannins and finish. I always try to pick out varieties of grapes in the wine but this one I can't. A true Chateauneuf-du-Pape blend with plenty of mystique and interest.

Not much of a nose, but great ruby color and concentrated sweet fruit taste, plums, but not at all syrupy; the finish shows some tannins, but that just makes it go on and on, with a promise that in a few more years this will be even better. But it is very good right now! 93 points

I tried this thinking I may have jumped the gun and I was right. This will take a couple of years in the cellar to show itself. The bottle I tried seem to be closed down. Even with aeration and decanting I don't think it ever opened up. May receive a higher score in the future but it doesn't live up to the reviews yet.
not so unctuous after all..

i found the Xavier Gigondas to be a bit thin upon first taste. with some air, it opened up a bit but the last thing i'd call this wine is unctuous. it has great flavor but lacks complexity. at $30, i'd rather buy any number of other wines. perhaps some cellar time might prove interesting.
