2006 Domaine St. Pierre Vacqueyras

Just northeast of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, sits the village of Vacqueyras. This rugged terrain, swept by the Mistral wind of the Mediterranean, is home to Domaine St. Pierre, a rising estate headed by Jean-Francois Fauque. St. Pierre's vines grow on the 4.5 acres on the galets roules, rocky outcroppings in the higher elevations of the village. These Grenache and Syrah plantings yield muscular, succulent wines which offer the concentration of Châteauneuf at a fraction of the price.
