($30) Deep ruby. Exotic, oak-spiced dark berries and kirsch on the nose, with hints of fruitcake, vanilla and cola coming on strong. Impressively deep and powerful if slow to unfold, offering sweet dark berry and spice flavors and a touch of candied violet. The finish is broad, sweet and very persistent, leaving smoke and spice notes behind. This will probably be more impressive as the oak is absorbed by the dense fruit; the wood was far more obvious when this wine was released last year. (V.O.S. Selections, New York NY)
