2006 Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling Eroica Single Berry Select Columbia Valley (half bottle)
Producer: Chateau Ste. Michelle
Style: Sweet Wine
Grape Type: Riesling
Origin: Washington
Region: Columbia Valley
93+ Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2010
($200; an ungodly combination of about 400 grams per liter r.s. and 14 grams of acidity) Full, deep orange-gold. Knockout nose offers marzipan liqueur, honey, dried apricot and white raisin. Pours like motor oil, displaying extraordinary concentration and glass-coating thickness. Supersweet and saline but downright unformed today, only hinting at the complexity to come; today the wine's huge acidity is hidden behind a wall of dried fruits and honey. Most impressive today on the finish, which is hard to scrape off the palate. This may ultimately merit a much higher score but it's a monolith today, and less lively than the Late Harvest White Riesling.
