Good bright ruby.  Subdued but complex nose offers blackberry, mocha, game, spices and a hint of sweet butter.  At once primary and pliant in the mouth, with dark fruit and spice flavors lifted by violet, mint and fresh herb high notes.  Intense and stuffed with fruit, but still needs at least a few more years in bottle to express itself.  Finishes with dusty minerality, excellent energy and building tannins.

From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.

Syrah

While the grape is currently grown throughout the world, the most elegant Syrahs still come from the Northern Rhone valley, particularly the appellations of Côte Rôtie, Cornas, and Hermitage. Here, steep, terraced vineyards help produce full-bodied, intense, tannic wines loaded with white pepper and red fruit. In the vineyard, Syrah is largely cooperative- vines are productive, but not overly vigorous. Skins are thick, helping the grape...
