($60) Glass-staining ruby. Hypnotic nose displays scents of red berries, cherry, smoked meat, potpourri and minerals; smells like a high-end, old-school northern Rhone. Pure raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are underscored by smoke, graphite and cured tobacco. Candied violet and rose notes build with air and carry through a strikingly long, juicy finish. This vineyard sits at an elevation of 2,500 feet and the wine was fermented entirely with whole clusters.
Tasted over 2 nights (after being open for 5 hours, sealed with a vacu vin) - decanted for ~ 1 hour on night 1. Dark red / purple color. Darker on night 2. On night one the nose was pretty tight with some red fruits & tobacco. On the body, the tannins are noticeable at the front (stems were left on in the crush I believe) but not overpowering. Very smooth, with rich acidity (better with food now than without) and fruit (black cherry), meat, and tobacco. More new world than old. Long finish. This wine was better on night 2 (it seemed to have more body) so I would wait at least a year if you only have one bottle but very good now with a decant. Would buy again.

This wine needs more time to develop. Full, but young, great legs and color. Cost more than I usually pay.

This has the potential to be a great wine - all of the right elements are there: nice fruit, complex nose, and layers of nuances that unfold as the wine opens up. I areated/decanted a few hours before serving and it was still tight. This wine may take a day to open up, since I shared with friends it didn't have a chance. Pedigree is there, I'd give it more time in the bottle, 2 yrs min.
