($70) Full red-ruby. Wild, musky, soil-driven aromas of cassis, mocha, coffee, earth and meat. Suave and smooth on entry, then more open-knit at the same stage than the 2006 was a year ago, showing slightly sauvage, saline flavors of game, flint and earth. For all its animal character, the texture is quite refined. Finishes very long, with smooth tannins. Offers an intriguing combination of Walla Walla ripeness and French funk, with both elements under control.
