Bright ruby-red. Vibrant red and dark berry scents are complemented by notes of garrigue, woodsmoke and dark chocolate. Rich and expansive but energetic as well, offering sweet blackberry and cherry compote flavors and a touch of licorice. Shows the heft of the vintage but comes off as lively on the long, spicy, smoky finish.

full flavored, what a chateauneuf du pape is supposed to be.

When given the chance to order more I decided to open a bottle now rather than wait at least a few years and wonder if the wait would be worth it. That is a resounding yes! It is very good now but it seems to me that its best years are still ahead. I would call the wine sappy at this point. It has a great acid level and after two hours seemed like it still had barely opened to its potential. The flavors seem to be lurking in the background. Yet it wasn't closed like a Bordeaux that needs 10 or 15 years either.
Great wine but overpriced
Not the first time that WineAccess has turned out to be a "non-bargain". But it hurts when your wine store next door sells the same wine for $6 less. I picked up a case.
Smell and taste was musty. Opened 3 bottles on 3 different occasions decanted 2or 3 hrs. I can use only 1 word musty, was not corked or cooked from what I could tell. Had a bottle of 06 about a year ago it was about the same. I will avoid E Guigal from now on !
