88 Points | International Wine Cellar , September/October 2010

($45; 14.5% alcohol) Medium-deep ruby. Musky aromas of red cherry, leather and smoked beef, with complicating notes of tobacco leaf and peppery herbs. Enters the mouth both broad and precise, with flavors of peppery red berries, licorice and herbs joined by tar and ink, but turns slightly bitter on the moderately long finish. The tannins are ripe, and there's plenty of alcoholic power here (as in all of Montepeloso's 2007s), but this wine's austere quality left me wishing for a little more flesh and fruit.
