($98) Good deep red-ruby. Aromas of black- and redcurrant and bitter chocolate, plus a whiff of menthol. Tighter and less sweet than the basic Napa Valley version, with strong acidity keeping the brooding dark fruit and mineral flavors under wraps today. This, too, is quite dry and classic and will probably require a decade of aging. Best today on the broad, long finish, which shows serious tannic spine, a flavor of black cherry, and strong soil tones and minerality.
