2007 Fabre Montmayou Malbec Gran Reserva Mendoza

When Herve Fabre left Bordeaux for Argentina, he had been told about the potential of Mendoza by his French winemaking friends. When he arrived, he went against the trend on the ground, eschewing new plantings and aiming at securing old-vine vineyard sites. Of all the purchases Herve made, the most amazing were the Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon vines that were first planted on original rootstock in 1908. These vines may have low yields, but they produce supremely concentrated and elegant wines. Herve hasn't restricted his ambitions to Mendoza; he's also planted Malbec in the light sand soil of Patagonia, in the far south of the country.
