($58) Good bright, dark red. Reticent, youthfully medicinal aromas of cherry, currant and menthol; the fruit is currently in the background. Concentrated, chewy and rich but the most backward and tannic of this set of pinots; plenty of extract here but not yet as energetic or complex as the Devil's Gulch. This, too, saturates the mouth with flavor without leaving any impression of weight. (These wines are all listed at a very reasonable 13.5% alcohol, by the way, and I wish that more North Coast pinots could achieve this much intensity and complexity of flavor at moderate octane levels.) There's already an impressive sweetness to the black cherry and brown spice flavors but there's much more to come. Very broad and suave on the aftertaste. This is easily the finest set of pinots I've tasted to date from this producer.

Had stashed away a couple of bottles of this and opened one a couple of days ago at a dinner party, and it was exquisite. Almost perfectly balanced, excellent combination of fruit and structure. One of the dinner party guests was driving, so tasting each wine (served 5) and choosing which to have a glass of, and this was the clear choice.
Explosive juice!

Had this the other evening with another Pinot expert and we were extremely pleased. Very bold Pinot!

This wine was excellent however, the Bennoni which cost about half was a far superior bargain for the price.
Nice Pinot

I liked the wine but I do not believe it compares to the top Pinot producers in California. It took 2 hours to really open and show its stuff.

About California

It is remarkable that an industry essentially less than a half-century old could capture the attention of the American wine-buying public to the degree that California has. Powerful consumer interest in California wine is driven by two major factors. The more obvious reason is that California's best wines, which come from grapes grown in...

Pinot Noir

Adored by critics, prized by collectors, Pinot Noir is one of most tantalizing yet temperamental varietals in the world. For many wine enthusiasts, this is part of the appeal of Pinot -- it doesn't reveal its charms easily. Pinot Noir's virtue also stems from the unique characteristics of the grape. The skins are especially delicate, which accounts for the lighter color and body of finished wine. But, despite the delicacy, the best wines have excellent backbone and...
