($48; 70% zinfandel, 20% syrah and 10% mourvedre) Opaque ruby. Deep, youthfully brooding aromas of dark berries, cherry pit and smoky herbs. A note of licorice comes up with air and carries onto the palate, adding a bitter note to the sweet blackberry and cherry flavors. Creamy in texture, with supple tannins carrying through a very long, smoky finish. This will benefit from decanting.
