($150) Saturated ruby. Powerful, pungent aromas of red- and blackcurrant, candied cherry, dried flowers, mint and pipe tobacco, with a smoky overtone of vanillin oak. Broad but focused, offering deep dark berry flavors and notes of bitter cherry, floral pastilles and smoky herbs. Gains sweetness with air and becomes more tannic but there are no hard edges here. The herb and vanilla notes echo through a very long, sweet finish. I'd hold off on drinking this deep wine for at least another ten years. This was raised in 100% new American oak hogsheads.
