($58) Good bright, dark red. Initially rather brooding aromas of dark raspberry, fresh pepper, cardamom and wild herbs convey a strong soil character; a piquant note of orange peel emerged to lift the nose. Then silky, dense and very pure in the mouth; quite dry in a classical way, with a fine-grained texture to the urgent black cherry, wild blackberry and spice flavors. This is notably different in style from this producer's Sonoma County wines, and an excellent example of this cooler appellation. Finishes long and aromatic, with lovely subtlety of flavor. Extended aeration brought even more energy and perfume. This may ultimately merit an even higher score.

If there’s a better 2007 Pinot Noir in California, bring it on. I buy them all the big wines – Sea Smoke, Patz and Hall, etc. Nothing touches the 2007 Devil’s Gulch.

Wow! What really surprised me was how this wine came on. On the first night at dinner, it just seemed like a great California Pinot fruit bomb. But those wines don't last long. This wine really surprised. The half bottle we left on night one was far, far better on day 2. We don't know how or why that happened, but we're glad we bought 4 bottles. We're laying down the other three.

The 1st bottle we tried was a nightmare ! rotten cork!! & rotten wine,undrinkable. sorry but that's ho w it was. Stay tuned for future results. Al,thanks 2nd ok
