Red-ruby.  Redcurrant, coffee, graphite and herbs on the nose, plus a whiff of caramel.  Supple and smooth initially, with a redcurrant flavor, then turns a bit dusty with air, showing a lightly medicinal quality to its fruit.  Finishes with a light dusting of tannins.  This is far less expressive today than the 2008 Cabernet Franc.

Wow!

The nose is fabulous with black fruit especially plum, spice, vanilla, cedar, the palate is huge, and very expressive of prunes, and stewed fruit. My sense is of a well aged, light, and very dry Madeira. The tannins are still quite strongly present, suggesting that this wine could age well for another decade or more. Really very nice!
Fantastic!

Four more of these have disappeared since the note above, with only one tasting note I didn't upload about a year ago. Now it is amazing. Big nose of vanillin oak, red and black fruit and spice box. Massive on the palate, but focused, and VERY long on the smooth finish. Just wonderful in general and fantastic with a pot roast and root vegetables. An honest five stars now, and six (bottles) are left! Life is good!
Great merlot - would buy again

Very big merlot - more like a cab, smooth tannins

Very good red fruit flavors and rich-tasting finish. It already has a surprisingly plush (almost satin-like) texture in the mouth. I'd buy more.
Good Time, no heavy thinking allowed

Sweet rich cherry licquer, nice body & texture. I feel like I'm being easy, but this was enjoyable and fun to drink.

This is good wine. It reminds me of good Chianti. That may sound strange but that was my first impression.
Nice Merlot!

This is a beautiful Merlot right out of the bottle without any decanting. Not a terribly ripe and lush style, but with good fruit and very focused. Good tannin structure and nice acidity - nice food wine, I think, and built for the long haul, yet accessible now. Richer out of bottle after 1.5 hours and more so the second day with no loss of aromatics. 92+ from me. I think the professionals are being stingy on this one!

About Napa Valley

Napa Valley is the most famous wine-growing area in the U.S. It begins at the base of Mount St. Helena in the north and tapers off some 30 miles to the south into the floodplain where the Napa River enters San Francisco Bay. From Mount St. Helena to the city of Napa, the valley is defined by two north-south ridgelines of the Coast Range Mountains.

Merlot

Merlot enjoyed a surge in popularity in the 1990s as consumers suddenly discovered that they could enjoy aromas and flavors similar to those of Cabernet in a fleshier, softer wine with smoother tannins. A wave of Merlot plantings followed, frequently in soils and microclimates completely inappropriate for this variety, and the market was soon...
