($40) Good medium red. Wild red fruits, cherry-cola, underbrush, pepper and spices on the nose and palate, lifted by a note of orange peel. Juicy, spicy and broad, with an enticing sweetness and good clarity to the middle palate. Not yet complex but I like the hint of stems here (Capiaux actually destemmed this fruit entirely, then added back 10% of the stems for the fermentation). Finishes with substantial dusty tannins. This is Capiaux's 11th year of working with this vineyard, which is on Goldridge soil with a heavy clay component. The lower half of the property goes to Korbel's sparkling wine, he told me.
