About Peter Michael Winery
Appropriately enough, Sir Peter Michael, an Englishman who made his name in electronics, established his vineyard in Sonoma County's Knights Valley. From the moment he purchased the property in 1982, Sir Michael has insisted upon an Old-World approach to New World wine. Terroir is paramount here, along with elegance in favor of overstatement.

($75) Light, hazy yellow. Energetic nose evokes Meyer lemon, tangerine, anise and smoky lees. Fleshy, deeply concentrated citrus and melon flavors are complicated by brown butter and honeysuckle nuances. Becomes stonier with air and finishes with excellent clarity and sweet persistence. Plenty of power here, but this wine's precision was what struck me.
