Dark ruby. A highly fragrant bouquet displays cherry, dark berries and an exotic pit fruit quality. Juicy, focused and mineral-driven, offering intense bitter cherry and fruitcake flavors and firm acidity on the back end. Becomes spicier with air and finishes on a sappy dark berry note, with very good, peppery persistence.
Think of Crozes-Hermitage, which comes from a wide variety of vineyard sites north and south of Tain, as a junior version of Hermitage--with less concentration, character, and aging potential but at a fraction of the price. Read More »
While the grape is currently grown throughout the world, the most elegant Syrahs still come from the Northern Rhone valley, particularly the appellations of Côte Rôtie, Cornas, and Hermitage.
