About Au Bon Climat

90 Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2009

($30) Bright gold. Lees-accented scents of pear, melon, peach pit and grain, with a smoky mineral quality that carries onto the palate. Pliant, finely etched citrus and orchard fruit flavors expand with air, picking up sweeter honeydew and peach character. Finishes with very good clarity and sweet, juicy persistence.

Josh's review nails the nose. Toasted grain, white peach and melon, stones and minerals. However, my bottle has less fruit richness on the palate. There is good weight, richness, and nice acidity to balance it out, but a touch of alcoholic heat at the end. I would like a touch more fruit. Still a very enjoyable 89 - 90 point wine that would be great with food.

Chardonnay

The best Chardonnays in the world continue to arrive from the region where the grape first emerged: the chalk, clay, and limestone vineyards of Burgundy and Chablis. While the origins of the grape were disputed for many years, with some speculating that the grape came all the way from the Middle East, DNA researchers at the University of California-Davis proved in 1999 that Chardonnay actually developed...
