In the historic part of Carlton, there is a newcomer, who started making wine here in 1994. A transplant from Kentucky, Ken Wright is a leading proponent of vineyard-designated wines, and has come to be known for sweet, user-friendly Pinot Noirs from nearly a dozen of Oregon’s best sites.

($24) Light gold color. Subdued aromas of poached pear, melon and yellow apple. Fleshy and a touch warm, with deep orchard fruit flavors and a hint of white pepper on the back end. Serve this chilled, alongside grilled seafood or chicken.
