90 Points | International Wine Cellar , November/December 2011

(from the same hillside as Monprivato, in Castiglione Falletto; these vines are around a century old, according to Mascarello):  Deep, bright medium ruby.  Very ripe aromas of black cherry, chocolate, licorice and herbs.  Superconcentrated and nicely balanced, with mouth-saturating flavors of slightly saline black fruits.  Very deep and rather tannic barbera, with a long, slightly roasted finish.  From a nebbiolo terroir; in fact, this plot is actually planted to both varieties.
