($125) Light gold. Pungent, expansive aromas of melon, apricot, tarragon and violet, plus a strong overlay of minerals. Deeply concentrated pit fruit and floral flavors convey a red wine-like texture and power, with notes of licorice and mint gaining strength with air. For a rich, fleshy wine this is surprisingly lithe and precise. The extremely persistent finish repeats the floral and herbal notes and leaves a suggestion of honey behind. Vernay suggests serving this with "the richest shellfish dish you think you can make."
