Yearning for the Zinfandels of the '70s

A wine like this makes no sense to me. Why would anyone take gnarly 108 year old vines and make an elegant, polite wine that imitates Pinot Noir? The Dutton-Goldfield is not a bad wine. In fact, it is a very well made wine, very good, perhaps even excellent in quality. But I just don't understand why someone would make a wine like this. It makes me yearn for those bawdy impolite zins of the 70's.

I am a huge Zin fan, and this is one of the better ones I've had. Good balance of pepper, fruit and jam.
Where's the Zing

Well, after reading the review, I was expecting so much more as a Zin lover. This wine had simple black pepper and blackberry flavors that did not envelope the palate.
