2007 August Briggs Zinfandel Old Vines Napa Valley

This very promising wine leads with lots of concentrated, lightly dusty, blackberry fruit in the nose but veers to simplistic ripeness once in the mouth. It tastes of dried grapes and chocolate more than of fruit, and, while not so alcoholic as its late-harvest traits might predict, it is nonetheless a bit heavy-footed and lacking in brightness and life.
