Founded in 1973 by Tom Dehlinger, a UC Davis graduate, Dehlinger Winery has a rep for quality not quantity. Production here has topped out at about 7,000 cases per vintage, a figure that has risen steadily since the initial 14 acres were planted in 1975.

($32) Bright yellow-gold. Fresh Meyer lemon and green apple aromas are complemented by dusty minerals and quinine. Plump and juicy on entry and through the middle, then tightens up on the back end, displaying sweet citrus and melon character. Offers a suave blend of fat and structure, with very good finishing spiciness and cut.
